Times Tables

We believe that children should know their multiplication tables very well before they proceed to division, fractions and other mathematical operations. Our Times Tables software will help them to master the multiplication tables in a relatively short time – helping them to answer questions without hesitating at all.

Setup

The Times Tables application has a setup where one can choose which multiplication table to practice. It starts with he 2 times table and ending with the 12 times table. You can also choose to do either multiplication or division, or both. The division is based on he same set of tables - from 2 to 12 times.

Start the practice session

Those tables that are chosen for the practice session in the setup process will be used to create a practice spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will randomly order the multiplication tables and will try to avoid unnecessary repetition.

The exercise automatically produces a report when all the questions are answered correctly. If a wrong answer is given to a question, the answer will turn red and the correct answer is shown next to it. The child can memorise the correct answer because the same question will be asked again in a following page. The exercise will only be completed when all the questions have been answered correctly.

At any stage during a session a progress bar will show the progress of the exercise, the number of questions correctly answered, and how many are still to be done.

Report

When all the questions are answered correctly, the program generates a report providing information about the exercise. The reports will show all the question(s) answered incorrectly and the time it took the child to complete the exercise. The report also captures the child's name which is useful when it is printed on a network printer.

The report will help the parent to monitor the progress of the child and to see which multiplication tables the child does has not fully mastered yet.

It also generates a score based on the average time taken to answer a question and the number of incorrect answers given. The child can then try to improve on this score and it might just lead to a friendly competition between friends on who gets the best score!

The report can be saved to disk in HTML (browser) format. The incorrectly answered questions can also be saved to disk from which they can be singled out for a later exercise, again in random order.
